This is home. Even when I moved away, it was still “home.” This is where I grew up and always come to back to. I have seen this view most days of my life. When I was younger, of course, it wasn’t appreciated.
This is Fisher’s Peak. No relation. An icon of a small southern Colorado town. The elevation is an impressive 9633 feet and as of 2020, the Fishers Peak State Park was established. The peak is home to Lake Dorothy, and really, there’s no place like home. It is also connected to several breathtaking mesa’s and Sugarite Canyon State Park in New Mexico.
I first learned to ski there. I believe it is called a Poma Lift? The ski area no longer exists, probably because the Poma Lift is a deadly looking contraption. It’s like a makeshift T-Bar pully system with a seat that you can keep between your legs BUT DO NOT SIT ON. I repeat, you cannot sit on those little catapult spring loaded slingshot seats. You are supposed to remain in a relaxed position, letting the pully bring you up the incline. Again, the seat is not for sitting, despite a seat’s intended purpose. Whatever the case, it beats sidestepping up a slope but that lift was quite intimidating to a petite 9 year old wearing leg warmers as ski pants.
Home is always where the heart is and there is no place like home.
